Rainwater Catchment | automated irrigation systems
Rainwater catchment systems capture and store rainwater for landscape irrigation. A typical house with 2,000 square feet of roof area receiving 24 inches of rainfall can collect approximately 30,000 gallons of water a year. Rainwater is stored in above or below ground tanks until needed in the summer to irrigate plants in the garden.
The Sunset Idea House
san francisco, california
At the Sunset Idea House, WaterSprout installed a rainwater catchment system that harvests approximately 21,000 gallons of rainwater a year for use as toilet and laundry water in the house. The rainwater from the roof drains into an underground 4,000 gallon cistern for storage. From the cistern, rainwater is pumped through a series of filters which clean the water before use in the toilet and laundry. The residence also has a greywater system.
